This is how a south-south intersectional dialogue on sexual and reproductive justice looks like

July 1st, 2018|

By Anamaria Suciu, YouAct Chair In the beginning of June 2018, 22 feminists met in Kuala Lumpur to have a cross‐regional south-south feminist intersectional dialogue on sexual and reproductive justice in the context of the sustainable development agenda. The meeting was organized by Realizing Sexual and Reproductive Justice (RESURJ) with the aim of creating a space to deepen our analysis and strategize around the 2030 sustainable development agenda, as well as to connect and build cross-regional alliances with younger feminists from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Pacific, Middle East and Europe. YouAct was invited to bring a youth perspective from Europe, a donor-region where North-South dichotomy persists regarding issues related to sexual and reproductive justice. For 3 full days we shared lessons learnt and best practices regarding organizing, identified regional trends and challenges, as well as similarities and differences in our ways of working and opportunities in staying connected. We focused [...]

Youth Against Online Discrimination Study Session

April 15th, 2018|

By Anja, YouAct member From the 19th to the 23rd of March, I had the pleasure of representing YouAct at the study session “Youth Against Online Discrimination”, which took place at the European Youth Centers in Strasbourg. The study session was organised by Youth Sexual Awareness for Europe (YSAFE) in partnership with the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex Youth and Student Organisation (IGLYO) and the Digital Leadership Institute (DLI) with support of the Youth Department of the Council of Europe. The study session had the purpose of enabling young people to understand intersectionality and identify and address discrimination online. The five-day study session was divided into sessions which focused on familiarizing participants with the international human rights frameworks, defining discrimination and intersectionality, talking about hate speech, learning about digital skills and cyber security and finally, working on project development. During the study session, I specifically appreciated the [...]

Busting Abortion Stigma with inroads

March 30th, 2018|

By Camila, YouAct member Last week I entered a beautiful, stigma-free world: where people have access to legal, safe, and free abortions, where your economic situation, nationality, gender, disability, race, religion or age don’t limit your access to healthcare, where you don’t have to justify your decision to continue or end a pregnancy, where having the right to make your own decisions over your body is a given, where your emotions and feelings are taken seriously, and where diversity is celebrated. This world was the inroads Global Gathering, which took place in Zagreb from the 12th to 16th of March 2018. I was invited to the inroads Global Gathering to present YouAct’s work on stigma busting through the ‘Speak My Language’ Project: two toolkits that explain abortion stigma with a focus on Eastern Europe and show how storytelling can be an incredibly empowering and effective tool to bust stigma. Throughout the [...]

YouAct’s Participation in the UN ECE Regional Forum for Sustainable Development

March 6th, 2018|

From the 28th of February to the 2nd of March, Anja Pedersen has participated in the UN ECE Regional Forum of Sustainable Development (RFSD) in Geneva, as the representative of YouAct. The forum is one of two regional reviews of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our region. The other review is undertaken by the European Union. One key difference consists in that the UN ECE region is larger than the EU and includes the Balkans, Israel, Central Asia, Russia Canada and the US. The Chair’s note, the outcome document of the meeting, is submitted to the High Level Political Forum (HLPF), the forum of the global review of the SDSGs, which place at the UN headquarter in New York. The structure of the RFSD mirrors that of the HLPF in the sense that five goals are up for review each year, while goals 17 on partnership is reviewed every [...]
