Re-Tweet for Rights- Youth and Online Advocacy
- August 2, 2011 14:55 PM
New technology has emerged in the past 20 years introducing its communication tools such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. These means play a great role in our day to day activities, but can also be an effective platform for communication with and advocacy towards decision makers. We have seen in the last year how young people have taken to social networking platforms to raise awareness and share information and news during the Arab Spring.
YouAct actively is involved in the “COMMT” campaign which was organized by International Year of Youth strategy partners and aims to call on decision makers to put Youth Rights at the heart of development . It is a message to decision makers to young people to support and invest in youth. The campaign has a facebook fan page where young people can sign their name in support of the campaign calls. www.facebook.com/pages/COMMIT-Put-Youth-at-the-Heart-of-Development/249879828358308
The 'European Youth Demand Change' campaign, launching in September 2011, aims to target Members of European Parliament and provide a platform for European young people to call their decision makers to action on youth SRHR and to increase political and financial commitment of governments towards young people's SRHR.
As a youth advocate, I am grateful to access the advocacy campaign that involves my right to access technology, express my freedom of speech, seek information and communicate more freely with decision makers.
